Welcome to Benahavis Online

Benahavis, a mountain village 7km from the coast, is situated between Marbella, Estepona and Ronda. Renowned for its restaurants - they call it the dining room of the Costa del Sol - it is above all a picturesque place, where one can find  incredible mountain- and sea-views.
Boasting 12 of the Costa del Sol's 70 golf courses, and that will go up to 15 in the next couple of years, it is also THE hotspot for golf lovers.
Located on the Southern face of the Serrania de Ronda mountain range, Benahavis is the most mountainous village on the western Costa del Sol. Its terrain is traversed by the Rivers Guadalmina, Guadaiza and Guadalmanza. Regions of great natural and historic interest are to be found within its boundaries, such as El Cerro del Duque, Daidin and the Montemayor Castle.
On top of that, Benahavis is only a stone throw away from the beaches of the Costa del Sol and the spectacular mountains of the Serrania de Ronda.
The Benahavis municipality comprises about 145 km2 and the medium altitude is 150 meters. The climate is  Mediterranean, with a medium temperature of 17º Celsius, and the registered population on 27 February 2007 was 3798 inhabitants, of which more than half are foreigners although that is not reflected in the town hall personnel, which has only ONE foreigner working, not even on a permanent basis, and you have to be lucky to find someone speaking English.

NEWS FROM BENAHAVIS

Benahavis new town hall urbanization
The new town hall ( which is bigger than the Malaga one, so I can only call it an Urbanization, and a big one ), impropriate for a village of less than 5000 inhabitants, is not going to be finished before the end of the year, a well informed source revealed.

Malaga Football Club in Benahavis
The Malaga Football Club, playing in Spain's La Liga is back in Benahavis for the summer stage and will be training on the football pitch daily until the 23th of July. The big news this year was of course the take-over by Qatari sheikh Abudallah Bin Nasser Al-Thani who announced the signing of 5 to 7 new players.

Benahavis Tapa route
On Saturday, June 26, all bars and restaurants will be serving tapas ( 2 Euros for a beer and a tapa ) . Starts at 19.00h.

Benahavis evening market on Mondays and Fridays
June has arrived and the summer temperatures are here again, which means the Monday evening arts & crafts market starts again. The difference this year is that the market is also held on Friday evening.

Benahavis town hall just taking everything for granted?
After TEN or TWELVE years of insisting on my part, the Benahavis town hall has finally set up a website with some information. Now, if I have had to run benahavis.net and benahavis.com with money out of my own pocket to put Benahavis on the net for the last 12 years, and Mr. Peter Letters has used a free e-mail on benahavis.net to send out his town hall e-mails, I think it is rather illogical not to ask me to give in a quote to make that new site. But of course, I would not give any commissions to anybody from the town hall as they are already paid by us. Is this the reason everything happened behind the back of the local people? What did it cost and who was asked to give a quote anyway??

Benahavis in Bloom
If you want to take part in the Benahavis in Bloom competition for the best and most flowery facade you will have to register at the town hall between 19th April and 28th April. Judging will take place between 3rd and 6th May, and price giving will be on May, 14 at 1PM at the cookery school.

Romeria de San José
On Friday, March 19 it is Saint Josephs Day and a local "romeria" will be held at the chapel halfway the Benahavis road. Basically, "romeria" means eating and drinking a lot. It all starts at about 1PM and goes on until around 5 or 6PM.

Andalucia day on February, 28
On Sunday, February 28, it is the Day of Andalucia with festivities in the sports pavilion from around 1.30PM.

La Torre restaurant back open
The La Torre bar-restaurant ( on the Plaza de España ) is open again since yesterday. Salamanca born Diego has turned it into a beautiful bodega and restaurant with about 30 different wines you can try by the glass. Plenty of excellent and different ( Salamanca style ) tapas and dishes.
A must if you like food and wine.

Vuelta a Andalucia
As in the previous years, the cycling tour of Andalucia has a stage finish in Benahavis. It will be the third stage with start in Marbella, and the riders are expected to finish around 4PM on the Avda. de Andalucia. The biggest names on the list of participants are Andy and Frank Schleck from the Saxo team.
Count on the Benahavis road being closed between 15.00 and 17.00 approx.
